Title: The Valley | ||
Statement: I wanted to let yellow take centre stage in this landscape. I think I was trying to put two completely separate ideas into one painting. I love landscapes, especially looking down at landscapes from an airplane. I love yellow, but it’s a complicated relationship. Symbolically, it ranges from joy and light and spring to danger and decay. It’s a tricky colour to use when painting, because it can so easily tip from being the embodiment of freshness to looking green, or orange or ick with the slightest flick of colour, so you always have to think carefully about the colours you use with yellow. | ||
