Meet our Jury Panel

We think that you will be excited to meet our 2022 jurists, Janet Hendershot, Krys Carruthers and Pat Hertzberg.

Pat Hertzberg is an interdisciplinary fibre artist currently living in Caledon, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from Sheridan College and York University in Canada, Pat continued to develop her fibre practice at the Penland School (Textiles) in North Carolina, USA. She was a Resident Artist at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, and is an active member of the ‘Connections Fibre Artists’ group. Pat’s work has won numerous awards, has been in exhibitions across Canada and is included in various publications. Her fibre and mixed-media works can be found in both corporate and private collections in Canada, the USA, Great Britain, Mexico and Italy.

Krys Carruthers is a long-time high school visual arts teacher, Visual Arts Department Head, Arts Huron coordinator and Regional Chair for Visual Arts in the York Region Board of Education. She has been a member of the Newmarket Group of Artists for many years. Her art practice includes painting, encaustic, dry transfer and mixed media techniques, and metalwork/jewellery. Janet Hendershot, B.F.A., OSA, SCA

Colour has been central to the landscape and abstract paintings of Janet Hendershot. Using  charcoal to explore black and white is also of interest. Works have been shown across Canada, Mexico, Colombia and represented Canada at the Olympics. Exhibited by leading galleries in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Victoria, B.C., paintings are found in the collection of many public galleries and private collections and have been juried into more than 30 competitions. Recent awards include Gold First Prize, Arts and Letters Club, Toronto (2015) and the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) Eleanor Besen Award (2017).  Exhibitions have been reviewed in the Globe and Mail, Art Magazine and ArtsCanada to mention a few. She is the recipient of numerous Ontario Arts Council Grants and has received Canada Council Grants. As a teacher and instructor, Janet taught adults and children at various institutions including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. She has been active in the art community as President and Vice-President of the OSA and other arts boards often leading the exhibition committee.
